Join Us in Celebrating our 115th Years by being a part of our 115th Club

Join Nebraska Children’s Home Society as we celebrate our 115th Anniversary on September 1, 2008.

We invite you to become a member of our 115th Club – where we are walking/biking/running 115 miles to our 115th Year.  The 115th Club began on May 8th (115 days from our 115th Year – so 1 mile a day) but the program can be started at anytime.  Once a person reaches the 115 mile goal, they will receive a free 115th Club T-shirt (design to be announced).

The miles can be accrued by walking/running/biking.  We will rely on the honor system.  If you would like to join, please complete the downloadable 115th Club Commitment Card and return to Kim Anderson at kanderson@nchs.org.  Attached is also a Walking Works Flyer and a Tracking Log for you to use to keep track of your miles.

This is a fun way for us to get excited for our 115th Year Celebration while promoting wellness and becoming active.  Please Join Us!

2008 Sand in the City News Release & Fact Sheet

The fifth annual Sand in the City® held on June 6th – 8th at Miller’s Landing still proved to be a successful weekend despite the tornado activity of Saturday evening.  The overall event raised more than $90,000 for Nebraska Children’s Home Society Foundation.  The Sand Blast Party on Friday evening entertained 240 guests as they viewed the sand sculptures, took a cruise on the River City Star, dined on the Hawaiian style buffet catered by Matt’s Grill and danced to the entertainment of the Wiseguys.  Ralph and Paulette Palmer were honorary chairmen for the Sand Blast party and the event chairwomen for the event were NCHS Family Guild members, Lisa McCue and Natalie Osorio-Nowak.

Local celebrity judges and artists chose four overall winners for the sculpting competition giving Millard Rotary the first place trophy with their Dora the Explorer sculpture.  Second place went to first-year team Millard Drywall for their sculpture of Winnie the Pooh and Eyeore and First National Bank received third with their Swimming Olympic Trials sculpture.  The Rookie of the Year award went to Kiewit for their Bob the Builder sculpture.   The public also voted online and at the event for their favorite sand sculpture in the People’s Choice Awards.  The People’s Choice Award winner went to the PayPal Square Pants with their Sponge Bob Squarepants sculpture.  They won with a total of 3,433 votes.

The money raised from Sand in the City® will help fund the programs of Nebraska Children’s Home, which include statewide adoption services and education, unplanned pregnancy services, medically fragile foster care and child care programs.

Sand in the City® is an annual event and is scheduled next year for June 5th-7th, 2009 at Miller’s Landing on the Riverfront.  If you would like to receive information about organizing a team for next year’s event, contact Kathleen Al-Marhoon, NCHS Foundation Special Events Manager at (402) 451-0787 or kalmarhoon@nchsfoundation.org
